Eid Mubarak 2011!

Salam awesome people!

Unas (ra) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (saw) migrated from Makkah to Madinah, the people of Madinah used to have two festivals. On those two days they had carnivals and festivity. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) asked the Ansaar (the Muslims of Madinah) about it. They replied that before Islam they used to have carnivals on those two joyous days. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) told them: 'Instead of those two days, Allah has appointed two other days which are better, the days of Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha.' (Hadith)

Time surely flies this blessed as we are already approaching the end of Ramadan 2011. What a short journey, huh? Still, we believe that it was definitely a wonderful journey spent with family & friends, and we do hope that all of you had a fulfilling holy month this year! =)

To all IIUM staffs & students, whether in Malaysia or other parts of the world, and for the rest of our fellow Muslim brothers & sisters everywhere, IIUM.fm would like to wish a heartfelt EID MUBARAK to you!! May Allah S.W.T. bless you all with much peace, joy and happiness always! =D

So, want to know the significance of Eid? Check it out right HERE!

And what should we do on the night of Eid ul Fitri, the DAY itself, and the whole of Shawwal month? It's just a click away right HERE. =D

Enjoy the spirit of celebration and togetherness, and remember, stay safe on this joyous festive season okay =) We'll see you real soon for the upcoming semester!

Ramadan is BACK!

Assalamualaikum beautiful people!

That's right, the holy month of Islam has come to embrace us again! And in the IIUM environment, this Ramadan marks the beginning of a new change for IIUM residents as the new academic calendar allows us to celebrate Ramadan at home with our families. =) Therefore, IIUM.fm would like to wish a fulfilling, enchanting, beautiful Ramadan to all IIUM citizens and the rest of the Muslims everywhere across the world!

Here's something that we'd like to share with you about Ramadan:

We should note that the month of Ramadan is the best of months. This month is superior to others in four things:
1.     In it there is the best night of the year, which is Lailatul Al-Qadr. Worship on this night is better than worshiping for a thousand months.
2.     In this month was revealed the best of Books to the best of the Prophets (peace and blessings be upon them all).
3.     In this month the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the devils are chained up.
4.     There are many kinds of worship in Ramadan, such as fasting, praying Qiyam Al-Layl (Night Vigil Prayer), feeding the poor, performing i`tikaf (religious retreat), giving charity, and reading the Qur’an.

How do we welcome Ramadan? How can we prepare for Ramadan? Read more on this beautiful blog post here -----> SuperMuslims : Welcoming Ramadan =D

Of course, IIUM.fm has an awesome line-up of programmes, songs and nasyeeds just for you this blessed month!

We have a special programme,
'Ramadan Reminders with Yusuf Estes',
every day this Ramadan at 2 p.m.
May we all benefit from his reminders!

Keep sticking to IIUM.fm, Your Campus Radio this Ramadan, peeps~ \^0^/

IIUM.fm's Birthday Bash A Success!

Salam gorgeous people!

Already celebrating away your semester break? We sure believe you are! It is definitely the time to embrace that much-awaited free time and spend quality time with friends and family! For those traveling to various parts of Malaysia or the rest of the world, IIUM.fm would like to wish all of you a safe and smooth trip back home, and may Allah bless your journey along the way. We would also like to wish you a fulfilling long semester break and of course, Insyaallah, we'll meet you again next semester with more new content and talents! ^_^

For those who didn't know, IIUM.fm has celebrated it's first birthday bash on the 17th June 2011!! The bash was held at the Human Sciences (HS) Square and there were much entertainment from fellow students, lots of food (yes, a lot of food for just tea-time!) and of course, a birthday bash wouldn't be complete without a birthday CAKE and birthday cupcakes!!! Let's go through the eventful celebration in pictures, shall we? \^0^/

The birthday bash began with a few opening words by IIUM.fm's own deejay, Amierah Amer

The Head of Department of Communication (HS), Dr. Che Mahzan Ahmad giving out his short speech

The Dean of IRKHS, Dr. Badri Najib Zubir reminiscing the achievements of IIUM.fm in his speech

The audience were shown a video show on the history and the journey of IIUM.fm throughout it's first year

A sudden gimmick that caught everyone in surprise & excitement!

The bash had another emcee of the day, Bro. Junaidy Abidin who showed us a couple of cool dance moves!

The first performance for the bash was from the Palestinian group, impressing the audience with their traditional warrior dance!

The ceremony was toned down for a while with some soulful nasyeed from the members of IIUM's Nasyid Club

The event was hyped up again with a dance performance from Syria!

An awesome solo move by one of the Syrian dancers!

The last performance of the day with more soulful songs from IIUM's Acoustic Band club

Aww... IIUM.fm's founding father, Sir Johanni Saleh, Dr. Che Mahzan & Dr. Badri Najib in union to cut the IIUM.fm's birthday cake!

The bash ended oh-so-nicely with, of course, 'makan' time!

Our lovely customised cupcakes!!! =D

Yeah, FOOD!

The best way to end your 'makan' - have a chit chat!

Our guests seemed to be enjoying themselves!

Maybe enjoying a bit too much? =D

All in all, the bash was a success and we'd like to thank everyone who made it happen and to all those who came and made it awesome!

~~~
Besides the wonderful birthday bash, IIUM.fm also had a major makeover in the radio lab which not many of us are aware about! So what exactly is it? =P
The conty has been moved to the radio classroom! Whee~!
Sir Jo and radio technician Khairoul setting up the system. The new conty looks more professional now!
How about it? Cool eh? =D
So many pictures in one post! So many stuffs went on in one day! And despite a few setbacks, what a fantastic day it was =) For more pictures of the event, just head on to our Facebook group!
IIUM.FM's First Birthday!
Salam gorgeous people! ;D
No kidding! IIUM.FM is already one years old?? YES!!! Finally the happy news is out to all!!! \^0^/
IIUM.FM was officially launched on the 26th of May 2010 by IIUM's Rector, Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid. The Internet radio serves as a platform for Communication major students specialising in Electronic Media to learn and apply their radio broadcasting skills via assignments, projects, practicum or practical training. Since the radio can be heard through Internet streaming (and being under an international university), its format is international music and has listeners from all across the globe including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Yemen, Montenegro, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Netherlands, Taiwan, United States, Thailand, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, and Egypt (based on our traffic record in January 2011).
A Communication lecturer, Sir Aznan Mat Piah, who specialised in teaching Public Relations had explained in his blog so beautifully in detail the unique content of IIUM.FM that it is an honour to include it here:
The radio broadcast gives good opportunity for students to have the real feeling of being involved in the operation of the broadcast station where they prepare news, gather information, carry out live interviews, and organize and prepare programs for broadcasts under the able guidance of their experienced lecturer and a broadcaster, Mr. Johanni Saleh. The contents of the broadcast vary from current news items, and campus activities to research and academic highlights, and scholastic views on social and religious matters, particularly relating to Islam and its portrayal in society and the media.
You can read his full article about the radio right HERE.
IIUM.FM has come a long way since it's launch last year. Nonstop international music from China all the way till the US! Informative interviews of distinguished guests including renowned academicians, various cool programmes from talented deejays, top 20 music charts (remember Carta 20? =D), news from talented newscasters, retro hits shows, weekly live telecast of the Friday khutbah directly from the IIUM mosque, and lots more! Phew!
Various events are also covered by the IIUM.FM team including the OIC International Debate Championship, IIUM Convocation Fiesta (Convest) 2010 promotion in  IIUM Kuantan campus, mahalah events (Mahalah Aminah), IIUM PC Fair 2010, launching of the new Bank Muamalat branch in IIUM, and IIUM's Ummatic Week!
All contents are produced by students, for both students and the general public. The IIUM.FM crew would always improve and upgrade their performances from time to time with the support and encouragements from the radio's listeners. Suggestions and constructive criticisms are also very much welcomed. Because, hey, IIUM.FM aims to provide the best just for you! =D
All in all, IIUM.FM would not be as it stands today without its founding father, Sir Johanni Saleh, lecturer, supervisor and mentor for all Electronic Media students. Simply called Sir Jo by students and lecturers under the Communication Department, he is best known for his vast experience of more than 20 years in the radio broadcasting industry. A special THANK YOU we bid to you, Sir Jo! =)
Of course, a birthday wouldn't be complete without a birthday celebration!!So when exactly is IIUM.FM's first birthday bash? You just got to stay tune to find out, coz an update on that is on the way!
Countdown to IIUM.FM's first birthday: TWO DAYS TO GO PEOPLE!!! WOOHHHOOO!!! \^0^/
As always, keep on sticking with IIUM.FM, Your Campus Radio! =D
IIUM.FM Rejoices Over Ummatic Week 2011
Assalamualaikum listeners!
We would like to apologise for the blog's lack of updates; there are slight changes happening within  IIUM.FM (we'll let you know all about it real soon!), but insyallah, there are good changes coming up for our one and only campus radio!
Anyway, one week has past since the closing of the successful event of the year in IIUM, which is none other than the Ummatic Week 2011! With its theme "One Ummah", the glorious one-week event was held to expose the diversity of cultures of the University and its uniqueness, as IIUM is a home for many international students and staff from different parts of the world. Another notable fact of the event this year: there was also a merge of Batik exhibition from various countries represented in IIUM such as those from Africa, Middle East and Asia.
Here's a snippet of Ummatic Week 2011's concept from the programme manager:
This event is organized by ISD (International Student Devision). Here is where various types of customs and cultures come together and perform their cultural performances from various countries, together with other events for all the seven days. This event aims at promoting brotherhood where race and culture barriers are broken and thus enabling the learning and appreciation of these various cultures exhibition by various countries across the world.
If you missed out on the whole event (which is extremely unfortunate of you!), here are some of what the event has offered during that whole week: cultural performances from various countries were held every night such as dances, fashion shows, martial arts, theatre performances and other creative acts; a food fair with awesome free local and foreign food; Sister's Night that was a blast (sisters only!) and of course, the grand Closing Night that united all IIUM citizens together to witness and celebrate the new bond of ummah formed throughout the week.
But the most outstanding event within Ummatic Week that made it truly stand out from any other events in or out of IIUM, was non other than the cultural booths held to promote more than 20 countries all over the world, from Thailand all the way to Djibouti! Held in the Cultural Activity Centre (CAC), visitors could explore booth to booth of different countries and experience the richness of culture that each country has to offer - from the vibrant colours of costumes and accessories to the fascinating facts of history told by the country's representatives. Lots of dancing by the brothers were involved as well to celebrate (while promoting!) their respective countries!
On IIUM.FM's part, our two DJs, brothers Hamza (left) and Adam have done outstanding interviews of various country's representatives, from China and all across to Egypt, every day throughout the week at 5pm. Great job, guys!
Other IIUM.FM crews were given tasks as well to collect songs from each country's booths to be included in IIUM's campus radio. So those reading this post, don't forget to submit at least 10 of your country's songs (max. 20!) to the Communications Radio Lab (from CELPAD roundabout, walk through the HS building and take the stairs down on your right, and the lab is right at the end corner underneath that stairs! PS: Look out for the male toilet.) Our crew would be more than happy to assist you!
All in all, IIUM.FM would like to extend much congratulations for the wonderful success of Ummatic Week 2011! We hope to see you listeners again next year on the same event!
Keep on listening to IIUM.FM, you campus radio =)
